Menindee Visitor Information Centre

The first point of call where the friendly volunteers will provide you with information* on all you need to know to enjoy your stay!!

After spending some time strolling through the VIC that encompasses:

  • the Souvenir and Information Shop;
  • the Darling River Art Gallery that features local arts, crafts and exhibitions;
  • the mini museum that houses many an ‘odd find’ from bygone days of the receding banks  of the Darling River and strange but useful everyday items;

*collect the local Heritage Trail & Menindee Lakes maps

Maiden’s Hotel

Provides outback accommodation along with ice cold beer and great Aussie tucker to make your visit comfortable and memorable.

The first European settlement was undertaken by Tom Pain and his family, who built the Menindee Hotel in 1853. Now known as the Maiden’s Menindee Hotel, it is reputed to be the second oldest hotel still in continuous operation in NSW. The colonial explorers Burke and Wills used the hotel as a staging point for their disastrous 1860 expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria.

The Maiden’s features a display of artwork by renowned area artists and photographs depicting the building of the Menindee Lakes Scheme.

 

Four Mile Reserve

The Four Mile camping reserve is one of the most popular free camping sites along the Barwon River. The Four Mile is conveniently located a few minutes out of Brewarrina township along the Coolabah and Carinda Road, offering approximately 12 hectares/ 30 acres of river frontage to camp along which provides campers and families peace and quiet in undisturbed space that boasts nature and wildlife. Whilst immersing yourself into the beauty of Outback NSW, at the Four Mile you could encounter wildlife such as the Kangaroo, Wallaby, Emu, Goanna, Black Cockatoo and Eagles and even an echidna. Facilities include basic toilets, showers (cold), open fire BBQ, Jetty & Boat Ramp all of which are easily accessed from the main sealed road.

Lynchy’s Cabins
