🌿 Savour the Season.
This photograph was taken in 2019 on the banks of the Darling River at Toorale National Park, during one of the driest periods many of us can remember.
Even then, the old river gums stood strong. Their exposed roots tell a story of resilience, endurance and a landscape that has learned to adapt through every season.
Today, the story is very different. After widespread rain across the region, the Darling River Run is experiencing wet conditions, with many unsealed roads temporarily closed while the country takes the opportunity to drink.
We know road closures can be disappointing, but they're also part of what makes this landscape so special. The water soaking into the soil today will bring greener plains, healthier rivers, abundant birdlife and unforgettable scenery in the months ahead.
If you're planning a Darling River Run adventure, keep an eye on the weather and road conditions, travel safely, and be prepared to adjust your plans if needed.
Sometimes the best journeys are the ones that slow you down.

⚠️ ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE
Due to widespread rainfall across Far West NSW, most unsealed roads along the Darling River Run are currently closed or unsafe due to wet conditions.
If you're planning a Darling River Run adventure, the weather forecast is looking more favourable for the remainder of the week, with road conditions expected to improve if the dry weather continues.
If you're travelling in the region, it is your responsibility to monitor weather forecasts and check current road conditions before setting out each day. Conditions can change rapidly after rain, and roads that appear passable can quickly become impassable.
Always check the latest road condition reports, obey all road closure signs, and seek local advice before travelling. Never drive around road closures or attempt to access roads that have been closed due to wet weather.
If you're already exploring the Darling River Run, why not take the opportunity to spend a little longer discovering our welcoming towns and villages from the safety of sealed roads? Enjoy the local cafés, pubs, galleries, museums and attractions - or simply relax and wait for conditions to improve.
Your patience helps protect our roads, supports the crews working to keep the region safe, and ensures everyone can continue to enjoy the Darling River Run once roads reopen.
👉 Road condition report links for each local government area are available in the comments below.
🌦 Please also check the latest weather forecasts before travelling, as conditions can change quickly following rainfall.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE | Mays Bend – North Bourke
Due to widespread rainfall across the Bourke Shire and much of the Darling River Run, many unsealed roads are currently closed or unsafe due to wet conditions.
Please DO NOT attempt to access MAYS BEND or travel on unsealed roads in the Bourke region until conditions improve and roads are officially reopened.
Bourke Shire Council has received multiple reports of travellers and caravans becoming bogged while attempting to access the Mays Bend Free Camping Area via Bullamunta Road, just outside North Bourke.
Recovering bogged vehicles in these conditions places unnecessary pressure on Council staff and emergency services, while also risking further damage to already saturated roads.
Before setting out, always check the latest road condition reports, obey all road closure signs, and seek local advice. Conditions can change quickly after rain, and roads that appear passable may become impassable within a short distance.
Your patience helps protect our roads, supports the crews working to keep the region safe, and ensures everyone can continue to enjoy the Darling River Run once conditions improve.
For the latest local information, call in to the Back O' Bourke Information & Exhibition Centre before travelling.
