Culgoa River Campground, Culgoa National Park

Culgoa is a remote national park offering scenic views, free camping, birdwatching, picnicking, and a number of enjoyable day walks through the varied landscape.

Located in north central NSW, Culgoa River campground is an ideal resting place for well-equipped, independent travellers, with picnic tables and several short walks close by.

The remoteness of Culgoa National Park makes it an attractive option for extended stays, and Culgoa River campground is the ideal resting place for well-equipped, independent travellers. Offering free camping a short walk from Culgoa River (which is often dry), this scenic spot doubles as a place to picnic, making it a perfect break from road touring or adventure hiking.

Spring and autumn are ideal times to settle down in tranquil silence surrounded by gidgee trees and vibrant red soil. Culgoa River campground is remote without being isolated, offering you the best of both worlds. Be sure to pack an ample supply of food and water, and then forget about everything and revel in the solitude, with parrots and waterbirds brushing through the cypress pines above and grey kangaroos foraging around the shrubs below.

Between birdwatching, fishing and relaxing, you might like to take advantage of the nearby day walks, with several easy tracks leading through the scenic pines or along the river bank. A good place to start is Mirri Mirri Yurun (River Bank walk).

Nestled on the banks of the Darling River, this remote campground is perfect for self-sufficient campers who yearn to explore the beauty of the Darling River in outback NSW, near Bourke.

Arriving at the riverside campground, choose your spot to pitch the tent or park the caravan. The majestic river red gums provide a shady spot to relax and let the world drift by. Throw in a fishing line or bring a boat for a relaxing paddle down the river.

As the sun sinks, barbecue your catch and be serenaded by the sounds of the bush. Grab a torch for the chance to glimpse the pied bats and yellow-bellied sheathtail bats. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of the endangered Kultarr, a mouse-sized nocturnal hunter.

Dry Tank campground makes a terrific base from which to explore the park. Don’t miss the walk through mulga woodlands to nearby Little Mountain. From the mountaintop, you’ll enjoy outstanding views of the Gundabooka Range.

Belah Shearers’ Quarters, Gundabooka National Park

Belah Shearers’ Quarters are located within Gundabooka National Park.

Bourke is the closest township, approximately 50 kilometres from the entrance to Gundabooka National Park. Belah Shearers Quarters is approximately 43 kilometres from the entrance to the Park on the Bourke/Cobar (Kidman Highway) road.

Belah Shearers’ Quarters’ accommodates up to 12 people in six rooms.

Comfortable outback accommodation with fully-equipped kitchen, communal kitchen/dining, beds and air-conditioning. The toilets and showers are located in a separate building. Belah is surrounded by red soils, low lying bush lands and is off the beaten track within Gundabooka National Park. It is ideal for groups or extended family groups.

Bring your own linen, blankets, pillows and towels and insect repellents.
